Mereka sering dikreditkan untuk terlibat dalam kebangkitan punk rock dan beberapa inspirasi band punk berikutnya selama akhir 1980-an, serta mempengaruhi sejumlah besar punk lain dan musisi rock sepanjang karir mereka. Rancid is an American punk rock band from Berkeley, California formed in 1991. Founded by Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, both of whom previously played in the influential ska punk band Operation Ivy. Rancid is credited along with The Offspring and Green Day with helping to revive mainstream popular interest in punk rock in the United States during the mid-1990s. Unlike the other bands mentioned above, however, Rancid remained signed to an independent label and continued to play much more classic sounding and political music, most of which was connected to their underground roots. Rancid's songs reflect their strong left-wing political views, their near-religious disliking of major record labels, and discontent with punk elitism.

The band sees itself as a trio, Jason White and Jason Freese only participate in concert tours.

The group was formed in 1991 by vocalist Brandon Boyd, lead guitarist Mike Einziger, and drummer Jose Pasillas while enrolled in high school and later expanded to include bassist Alex "Dirk Lance" Katunich, and Gavin "DJ Lyfe" Koppell, both of whom were eventually replaced by bassist Ben Kenney, and DJ Kilmore respectively.

Blink-182 is a popular pop-punk band formed in 1992. The original band name was blink. They later had to add on the "182" suffix due to an Irish techno band who had the same name that had been around longer and threatened to sue the band.
